Solution
Rochdale Riverside forms a key part of a wider, long-term town centre regeneration programme. This £80m retail-led project includes 24 new shops and restaurants as well as complementary leisure uses.
The centrepiece of the scheme, a striking, copper-clad cinema, is set against a background of a dramatic kinetic wall featuring a relief depicting the River Roch, which runs in a culvert underneath the centre. The council has taken the head lease, in a sign of its confidence in this major regeneration project. ”After the completion of the Metrolink connection and the new Council Offices, Rochdale Riverside will be the last piece of the puzzle in the transformation of the town centre into a modern, thriving urban destination,” says Chris Wieszczycki, the principal director in charge of the project.
