King & Spalding’s 190,000 sq ft New York headquarters redefines the legal workplace as an amenity-rich, collaborative hub in Midtown Manhattan. Spanning four expansive floors, it sets a new benchmark for contemporary, future-focused law offices, reflecting the firm’s strategic growth and long-term commitment to New York, where it has operated since 1990.
Designed as a global meeting point for lawyers, clients and international teams, the workplace prioritizes flexibility, connection and adaptability. Nearly a third of the floor are shared environments, including a 200-person multi-purpose room and the staff café. Breakout spaces and informal settings support focused work, collaboration and social interaction. These areas create a layered, intuitive experience reflecting King & Spalding’s commitment to collaboration and client engagement.
The design addresses the challenges of deep-plan commercial floorplates typical of Midtown towers, introducing dramatic openings and staircases that draw natural light, enhance connectivity, and demonstrate tp bennett’s human-centred approach. Two feature staircases link the working floors, surrounded by amenity and informal meeting zones to foster connectivity and a statement corner stair connects the client-facing conference suite, enhancing the visitor experience.
Equitable light and amenities create a healthy, engaging workplace, with a consistent office typology reinforcing parity and the firm’s commitment to collaboration. Four terraces extend the workplace outdoors, designed for comfort and versatility with seating zones, greenery and adaptable layouts for informal and formal use. Visibility of these areas was key, with uninterrupted sightlines enhancing the indoor experience, creating a sense of openness. A palette of honed marble, warm timber, brushed bronze and limestone creates a calm, contemporary atmosphere built to perform today and adapt for the future.
This project was delivered with architects of record, Design Republic and builds on tp bennett’s longstanding partnership with King & Spalding, having previously delivered work for the firm in London.
