Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre

Solution

Following increased demand in the local NHS area, tp bennett was asked to create an independent sector treatment centre at Emerson Green, near Bristol. The centre was built and run by client UKSH to provide services for the NHS, creating additional clinical capacity and cutting patient waiting lists.

Arranged over three floors, the centre is designed to be patient-focussed and intuitive to use. From a curved glass entrance, patients and visitors orientate themselves quickly to the various sections: out-patients on the ground floor, in-patients on the second, surgical on the third. With a view to reassuring patients, it was designed to be friendly and human-scaled, with plentiful natural light and views to the surrounding landscape.

The centre was constructed using an off-site modular system that proved extremely rapid: the design and planning permission was achieved within 12 weeks. Since its launch, it has gained several awards and is now considered a strong prototype for a cost-effective clinical solution.
