Solution
This mid-rise addition to the Nido family of student residential developments was completed in 2011 to a tp bennett design. By the Grand Union Canal at Ladbroke Grove, and with two-bed apartments, single studios and rooms for disabled students, the 272-bed Nido Notting Hill raised the range of provision for students and added communal facilities, including a gym, café, lounge laundry and six work space units at ground level.
On the site of an industrial building, part of which it incorporated, the building took on the character of the area with brick elevations. Overlooking the tow-path, it has a rectilinear aesthetic that was, says tp bennett’s Nenad Manasijevic, inspired by Giuseppe Terragnis mid-century classic, the Casa del Fascio in Lake Como. New window cladding improved thermal performances, and four storeys of student accommodation are topped with a rebated penthouse floor.
