Forton Services

December 8, 2021

Few reflected the excitement of early motorway travel more than the stylish Forton Services, which opened in 1965 to much fanfare.

Appointed by Top Rank Motors Inn, tp bennett pushed the boundaries of architecture at that time with our design concept. The 65ft concrete hexagonal Pennine Tower Restaurant, which forms the heart of the building, evoked the modern glamour of the 1960s whilst offering incredible views out to the surrounding countryside.

Granted Grade II listed building status in 2012, Forton has been recognised by Historic England as a rare and early example of both striking landmark motorway architecture and the world it represented.

Many thanks to Roger Bowdler (Partner at Montagu Evans / former Historic England Director of Listing)
