Monocle – The Urbanist Podcast

August 9, 2023

For more than a decade, we have worked with partners across sub-Saharan Africa to deliver hospitals that are not only sustainable and responsive to the local context, but that are also restorative and have a positive effect on wellbeing.

tp bennett’s Healthcare lead, Polly Baker spoke to Andrew Tuck on Monocle’s The Urbanist about leading our Healthcare design portfolio and our seminal work providing high quality, accessible and sustainable hospitals in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe for NMS Infrastructure. One of our first projects, the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital with Ministry of Health Ghana, was highly commended by the World Health Organisation following a visit by its Africa Director.

Our nimble, kit-of-parts approach ensures designs that are adaptable to different terrains, different budgets, and different on-the-ground requirements. With sustainability in mind, locally sourced pre-fabricated materials and components are used so that the local community is empowered to carry out any necessary maintenance and repair work in the future.
