Solution

58 Victoria Embankment sits near Blackfriars on the north bank of the Thames in central London. Retaining its Edwardian façade as part of the historic streetscape, tp bennett designed a new Grade A speculative office building behind, which made the most of the tight site and striking riverside location.

Within the new nine-storey office building, a double-height entrance leads through to an internal glass atrium with a feature wall, dramatic glass lifts, walkways and flexible open-plan office space. To benefit from its unique Thames-side location, the upper levels were opened up and terraces created on the fifth, sixth and seventh floors, all in keeping with neighbouring historic buildings.

The building’s innovative use of sustainable features, including turbo-chillers, highly-efficient LED lighting, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting, created a building that far exceeds its BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Launched in 2016, 58 Victoria Embankment is now owned and occupied by the independent charity Nesta.
