Solution

At 26-storeys and 83m high, Limeharbour is the latest tall building to be built by tp bennett. Close to the Crossharbour DLR station in the Isle of Dogs, and featuring 155 homes from Telford Homes, it makes a stylish contribution to this historic corner site in London’s Docklands.

Known as the Liberty Building by the developer, Limeharbour is notable for having four vertical elements creating a small cluster. These run with the area’s urban grain: taller on the western side facing Canary Wharf, lower on the east where it abuts a lower-rise residential zone: the aim being to create a transition between these areas. Adding to the contextual response is a use of brick, which responds to the 19th-century warehouses and the terraced houses on either side.

The building’s verticality has been emphasised by the use of façade modules that gain in size the higher they go, and as a high-density building, it has been endorsed by the local authority, Tower Hamlets. With a percentage of affordable housing and an area of planted public space, it is a part of the neighbourhood as well as a landmark.
