To adapt to its changing needs, the shipping services group Clarksons asked tp bennett to fit-out its new offices in Commodity Quay, St Katharine Docks, London.

With an industrial look building – and in a location synonymous with London’s shipping history – Clarksons hoped to create a high-quality office space that would, says tp bennett’s Emily Hume, “Capture the ethos of its business and evoke its maritime identity.”

The practice created a design that drew upon Clarksons’ heritage, with model ships on show and with a material palette of steel and concrete: expressing the unification of Clarksons and Commodity Quay. Inside, the four-storey workspace was transformed into a flexible environment designed to enhance staff communication and wellbeing. Working environments were designed for each team and hub spaces placed on broking floors. Meeting spaces and connecting stairs between levels two and three aimed to foster staff collaboration, while on level four a staff restaurant and client suite led to a landscaped and furnished roof garden with bar, BBQ and stage.

Because Clarksons’ business involves entertaining, the ‘Ocean Club’ was created: a transformable space that can be high-end business lounge during the day and a lounge bar at night, with removable walls, full AV and smart lighting.
