Clarksons, the world’s leading integrated shipping services group, has moved its HQ to Commodity Quay, a visually industrial building that overlooks St Katharine Docks. Spread across four floors, the aim was to create a high quality space that significantly enhanced the visitor experience and demonstrated Clarksons’ commitment to its staff.
St Katharine Docks, much like Clarksons itself, is synonymous with London’s shipping history. The design therefore draws upon Clarkson’s maritime heritage, with large displays of ship models exhibited and basebuild materials used throughout, solidifying the idea that Clarksons and Commodity Quay are unified and connected.
The space has been transformed into an open, flexible environment with contemporary office accommodation designed specifically to enhance communication and wellbeing. Unique working environments have been designed for each team to enhance team synergies, whilst hub spaces on broking floors, a staff canteen, informal meeting spaces and a new connecting stair between levels two and three seek to bring staff together, driving collaboration.
Clarksons required a fluid environment that could be adapted to the business’s changing requirements. Resembling a high-end business lounge during the day and a trendy bar at night, the ‘Ocean Club’ can be transformed into a party venue at the drop of a hat with removable walls, full AV and intelligent lighting.
The northern façade on level 4 has been also enhanced to create a seamless transition from the staff restaurant and client suite to the new furnished and beautifully landscaped roof garden.
