Show Project DescriptionHide Project Description
tp bennett was commissioned to design the interior fit-out for Swiss Re’s offices in the 30 St Mary Axe tower. The project addressed a number of challenges, not least the highly individual form of the tower, with circular floors punctuated at the perimeter by atria envisaged as social spaces as well as elements in the progressive environmental strategy for the building. The brief was to provide largely open-plan accommodation of a high standard, with a small number of cellular offices, where staff previously scattered across a number of offices would be brought together. Spaces at the edge of the atria contain communal amenities – coffee points, copiers and library areas. An entire floor is largely occupied by meeting rooms, all equipped with state of the art audio-visual and video-conferencing facilities, with a 34 seat boardroom. The central core of the building contains lifts, stairs and WCs. In the office spaces, partitions are transparent, preserving views across the floors and maximising the use of natural light. Two new internal stairs easily located within the perimeter atrium provide maximum connectivity between floors.
Colour is used sparingly throughout, in the belief that it is the occupants who animate the spaces, however, a selection of art works reflects the company’s commitment to patronage of the arts.
