Chris Bennie

BSc DA RIBA Principal Director

After completing degree and diploma courses in architecture at Edinburgh University in 1980, Chris worked in Chicago and travelled widely in the USA and Canada on a programme arranged by the American Institute of Architects.  Joining tp bennett at the end of that year he became a Partner in 1987, a position held until becoming a Principal Member of tp bennett LLP upon its inception in 2005.

Throughout his career Chris has worked extensively with many of the leading UK property companies on commercial and retail developments, both new build and refurbishment and in the public sector he has been responsible for the building or fit-out of four government Departmental headquarters buildings.  For the residential sector he has designed many central London apartment buildings and by contrast a large private residence in Oxfordshire and a new private house in Chelsea.

He has a wide knowledge and experience in the conservation of Listed and historic buildings and how to adapt them when necessary.  Chris is often asked to provide advice at the earliest stages of acquisition and feasibility and led a large multi-disciplinary team advising Railtrack first on the masterplan, and then the redevelopment proposals for London Bridge Station, obtaining Listed Building and detailed planning permission for them. Chris has been engaged by Network Rail over the past couple of years reviewing these proposals and preparing for planning submission a successor scheme which will be implemented as part of the Thameslink Programme.

Chris has in-depth knowledge in over-site development of transport interchanges and has spoken at a number of conferences and at Public Inquiry as an expert on this specialist subject.
