tp bennett's Quest House adds a contemporary 'twist' to Croydon's gateway
tp bennett has gained planning permission on a residential proposal that comprises 146 apartments on behalf of client Londonewcastle, buoyed by the Council's encouragement of high-quality contemporary urban architecture to establish the area surrounding East Croydon Station as a local gateway site.
tp bennett's design aesthetic is one of sinuous curves, the towers' slender forms being reinforced by a rotating arrangement of balconies. These curved forms, while unique to the area generate a proportion and rhythm intended to resonate with the designs of Seifert's locally listed NLA tower.
The Council's committee praised the quality of the architecture at a hearing which saw the scheme voted 7-0 in favour of approval.
The dynamic form of the towers evolved from the concept of opening out the scheme's central amenity space to the adjacent residential street, allowing the buildings to become sculpted objects within a landscaped setting that inform, integrate and harmonise with each other.
